The roots of Saudi Arabia go back to the first civilizations that appeared in the Arabian Peninsula. Over the centuries, the peninsula has played an important role in history as an ancient trading center and a cradle of Islam, the second largest religion in the world.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia went through many historical changes before it was completely unified. In 1880, Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud (Ibn Saud) was born in Riyadh, and he and his family were exiled to Kuwait at the age of ten. In 1902, Abdul Aziz Al Saud recaptured the city of Riyadh, and began the process of unification, and four years later Najd was united

He continued his journey to unify the kingdom by annexing Mecca in 1924, Medina in 1925 and Asir in 1926. Finally, in 1932, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
united and assumed its throne, King Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Oil was discovered in 1936, and commercial production began in 1938, which allowed the modernization process to begin. After the discovery of oil, the kingdom became one of 51 original legal members of the United Nations in 1945.

The kingdom moved forward on the road to development; it introduced the cabinet system in 1958. Six years later, King Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud assumed the throne with a vision of government modernization and administration. By 1969/1970 the Kingdom had developed the first development plan.

In 1975, King Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al Saud assumed the throne and supervised the growth and industrialization of the country, after which King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud assumed power in 1982 and continued to grow and modernize in the country. During his rule, the Shura Council was established in 1992, and after that he introduced the Municipal Law .

In 2003, the Shura Council was given the authority to propose new laws, and two years later the municipal elections were introduced in the country.

In 2015, King Salman bin Abdulaziz succeeded King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz in power. Since King Salman took the throne, the kingdom has been on the path to prosperity and modernity.
